I love nothing more than a wedding at Rathsallagh House in Wicklow when the theme is family and fun. Ursula and Kieran had a beautiful outdoor ceremony in the walled garden of the property that they had fallen in love with when they first booked Rathsallagh House the previous year. The couple chose the venue because with three children of their own, they knew their boys would have the space to run around, and they could be married amongst the apple trees.
Ursula and Kieran, both from Dublin, have been together for eight years and I was delighted that they chose me as their photographer. Particularly when Ursula told me that music and dancing was going to be a priority for her. I knew right then that this day was going to be a party and a joy to photograph. They had even organised for the Inishowen Gospel Choir to travel from Donegal, down to Wicklow to perform. The pair had heard them perform at Glastonbury a few years ago and always wanted them to sing on their wedding day. It was such a special touch.
As for the fashion, Ursula has incredible style and I adored her look on her wedding day with her Justin Alexander dress. Her friend Caroline Quinn, owner of Dirty Fabulous Vintage, designed and made her birdcage veil and headpiece which was so chic. Her Hollywood glam look fitted in perfectly at Rathsallagh House. Her bridesmaid wore a Navy midi length dress and the flowers by Absolutely Fabulousadded a colour pop. Not forgetting the men (both big and small), the groom and their sons chose classic grey suits with the kids wearing the cutest bow ties, while the best man also wore Navy.
The thing that stands out about this wedding in my mind was that it was so relaxed. The bride and groom truly enjoyed their day and made sure that all of their guests did too. They had garden games and a bouncy castle — yes a bouncy castle! Everyone enjoyed this wedding, including me! It was a dream to capture all the love and fun.
So what was the bride Ursula’s highlight? “Having our boys involved in the ceremony — witnessing our love and commitment, the really relaxed and chilled vibes of the day, the laughter, the tears, the dancing and the craic!”
Just how a wedding should be.
